Honda Door Lock Silencers / "The Sound of Silence"

  • 1984 to 1986 Jazz / City (1st generation)
  • 1979 to 1987 Prelude (1st & 2nd generation)

• Do you have trouble closing your doors?
• Do your doors rattle a lot when you drive?
• Do they sometimes open while driving (the worst case) with no reason?

99% of the time, the culprit is a part that Honda calls (in English) the door lock silencer, door muffler or noise eliminator.

Over time this plastic part wears, degrades, becomes brittle and falls off the door latch mechanism – leading to the problems above. This inevitable wear will happen faster in colder climates. Failure and it's replacement is documented in Honda technical service bulletin 84-007 issued in April 1988.
